I am thrilled to announce some extraordinary news for fans of the iconic Dr. Burns & the Devil's Dandruff! After diligent searching with the help of an old acquaintance, I have successfully located Richard Liqueurs, who served as Dr. Burns' esteemed roadie and dedicated band manager. My initial plan was to conduct a video call interview with him and share it on this platform, however, due to his advanced age and limited tech proficiency, Dick expressed his preference for a phone conversation. Residing in the United Kingdom, coordinating our schedules across a 5-hour time difference, I engaged in lengthy late-night conversations with him, spanning nearly 3 hours, followed by further discussions a week later. Despite being 89 years old, Dick exhibited remarkable sharpness and a vivid memory as he recounted his experiences from the 1970s with the band. He was instrumental in laying the foundation for Dr. Burns and his bandmates in 1974, transforming them from a cover band to an original dynamic rock ensemble. Overwhelmed by the abrupt loss of Dr. Burns and the band, Dick reminisced about their shared journey on the road, collaborating with renowned groups, and managing their performances and equipment with unwavering dedication. During our conversations, Dick revealed a previously unknown facet of the band's history that took me by surprise. In 1975, he had funded a promotional recording session for the group, capturing four of their finest songs with the aim of securing a record deal. These tracks, recorded years before their acclaimed self-titled album, remained unheard of for decades, as financial constraints and legal challenges thwarted their release beyond a limited production of 100 copies. To my amazement, Dick possessed the original master 1/4 inch reel-to-reel tape of these unreleased songs and generously offered to send the tape to me so I could have it transferred digitally for wider appreciation. With the assistance of a skilled friend experienced in restoring vintage recordings, I received the digitized versions of these rare tracks, showcasing the band's raw talent and creativity in their early years. It is with great pleasure and excitement that I present this exclusive and unheard recording session of Dr. Burns & the Devil's Dandruff to all of you, a delightful discovery that adds a new dimension to the band's musical legacy.
