This video introduces the history and diversity of California agriculture past and present (1849-today). We discuss the Gold Rush, Music, Books, the Citrus Revolution, Fruit Packing Labels, and a few specialty crops! California’s agriculture industry is a major player in the state’s economy – and for the U.S. overall – thanks to more than 76,400 farms and ranches generating a whopping $100 billion in agriculture-related activity each year. One of only five agricultural regions in the world with a Mediterranean-growing climate, California produces more than 400 animal and plant commodities annually, more than any other state, with top products including milk, almonds, grapes, beef, and more. Additionally, two-thirds of the nation’s fruits and nuts and over a third of its vegetables are produced by California farms alone. California is not only a major contributor to the agriculture industry at home but internationally as well. The state earned a $21.9 billion agricultural export value in 2014, accounting for almost 15 percent of the nation’s total agricultural exports that year. It is no wonder the Golden State has been named the nation’s top agricultural-producing state for the last five decades. 🧭 Find Jeremy here: 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/calgeog/?hl=en 📧 E-mail: [email protected] #California, #History, #Agriculture
