Welcome to Grove Children’s Preschool in District 58! Thank you for your interest in our state-recognized preschool program. Since this film's production, Grove has expanded to serve students FIVE days per week!! (The video says that the program is four days per week). Video Script: My name is Jackelyn Cadard, and I’m the preschool coordinator. Today, we will provide you with a brief virtual tour highlighting our preschool curriculum as well as what a typical day looks like at Grove Children’s Preschool. Thank you for joining us! ** Grove Children's Preschool aims to meet the developmental and individual needs of all children in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment. We are located at Henry Puffer School on the north side of town and Indian Trail School on the south side. The program is offered FIVE days per week and is open to children ages 3 to 5 who reside within District 58 boundaries. (When this video was originally produced, the program was only offered four days per week.) When students arrive, our staff greet them at the curb and escort them into the building. Students hang their coats, empty their backpacks and prepare for the day. Each class holds a daily group meeting. Children check the weather and calendar and plan the day’s activities. District 58 encourages active learning that uses children’s natural motivators and abilities. So next, students participate in one hour of engaged learning and play, called Center Time. Students enjoy dramatic play, art projects, building blocks, healthy snack time and other activities. This lets children make choices, create ideas and converse with peers. Center Time is guided by the state-recognized Creative Curriculum. Teachers also promote the students’ social-emotional development at this time using the research-based Second Step curriculum. Afterward, children clean up by independently organizing and putting away their materials. Next, children participate in large group activities which may include story time, literacy, math, writing, music, dance, games or a visit to the library. Students then break into small guided groups designed to meet each child at his or her current learning level. Children practice communication and writing using the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Curriculum. Finally, children exercise their gross motor skills and social-emotional skills during recess on the playground outside and during art time indoors. At the end of the day, children review what they learned and are encouraged to put on their coats and backpacks independently before staff dismisses them to their approved guardian. ** Thank you again for joining us on this tour of Grove Children’s Preschool.
