Link: • HOW TO: Remove Valvecover+ begin VANOS rem... The VANOS has been a known weakpoint of the E46 m3, so much so that its just as legendary as the car haha. Here at Fatboy's Garage we mean to correct that problem. In this series, we are showing you how to bulletproof your VANOS system on your BMW e46 m3 S54. Instead of rebuilding the OEM VANOS, we have chosen to completely replace it as well as other parts with upgraded components available from DrVanos.com These are the best on the market, so we highly recommend them above all others. They install perfectly and perform well, offering superior performance and durability. An important thing to keep in mind when replacing the VANOS is engine timing, if dissassembly or reassemly is not done perfect, your engine will simply not perform. In our VANOS video series, we show you step by step how to get the perfect installation, from removal and replacement of all necessary parts. IN THIS VIDEO we are removing the VANOS and VANOS solenoid pack; the valve-cover is off and the engine is ready to begin VANOS removal. In future videos we are replacing the Exhaust and intake hubs because they were prone to having the teeth/tabs breaking off- causing catastrophic engine problems. We are also going to replace the Camshaft gears, timing chain guide, TIming Chan tensioner, camshaft hub bolts, and other various parts that are old and prone to failure in future videos. This is necessary if you want a bulletproof VANOS. With this in mind, its important to remove the VANOS and other parts when the engine timing is set at top dead center TDC. To know you're at top dead center TDC. You'll have to turn the crank over using a socket wrench on the vibration damper/harmonic balancer/Crank pulley. You'll then use the crankshaft alignment tool, to pin the crank with the OIT timing marker on the vibration damper lined with the timing marker. Then the VANOS and solenoid can come out and give you access to other VANOS related parts can be removed and replaced as good maintenance measure, bulletproofing your VANOS.
