I recently 'borrowed' an oyster shell from the yard of someone I personally know to create a gift that was meaningful. In fact, I was so impressed with the shine, colors and textures, I knew it would be a fun subject to paint, specifically in watercolor. And I was right! I even used a pearlescent paint that created the shimmery effect! This is a quick video to show the process. I hope you enjoy it! I paint in many sizes, but this one is on 5in x 7in paper. Each portrait takes me many hours and layers, according to the size. This is why I always do these videos in high-speed. Materials used: Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor Paint Colors used in various mixes: prussian blue, ultramarine, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, payne's gray, yellow ochre, winsor yellow Arches 140lb cold-pressed, acid-free watercolor paper Various brushes, my favorite is a set of kolinsky brushes in size 8 and 6 from Billy Showell.
