Donegal GAA U-14B Co. Championshhip final Lifford v Urris 13-9-1987 This was Liffords’s first county championship win in any football competition. They had won different underage hurling championships in the early 1960’s which in itself was significient, but this was their first football championship win, and after a replay having drawn the first game in the final. Dessie McDermott and myself had coached this team from U-10 age and Barry Toland did a trojan amount of work withh them too in 1987. Kieran McGlynn (Glenfin) was referee. Played in McCumhhaill Park, Ballybofey. Dessie McDermott was commentator and Sean Boyle (County PRO and Lifford man) operated thhe camera as I was involved in managing the team. A young 11 year old Shay Given (later to become Irish International soccer goalkeeper and a world class Premiership goalkeeper) played an outstanding season in goals and his brother Marcus played at full back.
