The austerity tank has a temporary battery pack today. I decided to try running the motor on 18 volts instead of 12. It has much more power and didnt get hot, i suspect the motor is 18-24 volts, not 12. The 06 shunter has had an extra belt added, so it has 2 pulleys on the motor, this has stopped the belt slipping and it has much more torque now, even under stall, it wont slip. The baby deltic came in very useful today, spent towing the GWR Hall around the layout to set up the suspension, i discovered it doesnt like my track at all, 8 foot radius curves are right on the limit of how tight it can go, after much work with the ballest and sorting out any doglegs, the loco runs better, but still derailed every 20 laps or so. I adjusted the swing on the bogie and removed the springs from the leading driving wheel, this seems to have solved the problem, the axle is very heavy and keeps itself on the track ok. I might have to find some very soft springs for it or put some kind of compensation bar in. This loco will have tender drive, which is why it is being towed today.
