IT’S ONLY MAKE BELIEVE, The Demensions, CD Cut 2005 Here is another really great classic cover version from our music collection. The Demensions hailed from Christopher Columbus High school in the Bronx, New York. Group members were Lenny Dell (Del Giudice), lead & founder, Howie Margolin, Phil Del Giudice & Maria Martelli. This is a special upload today Friday September 19, 2025, to honor the late Lenny Dell. He passed away on September 19, 2021, from the terrible disease Covid 19! I spoke with Lenny back on February 9, 2021, as I was getting ready to upload The Demensions’ cover version of The Harptones’ classic “THAT’S THE WAY IT GOES” on our new POP channel for “Valentine’s Day”. We spoke for more than 2 hours discussing The Demensions’ musical journey and all the “GREAT” songs they recorded through the years. I also mentioned to him how much I admired their sound and distinct musical arrangements that set them apart from all the other artists. It was a great conversation! The Demensions had 2 songs charted nationally on Billboard. Their biggest, “OVER THE RAINBOW” (Mohawk #116) charted in September 1960 for 15 weeks and reached #16. “MY FOOLISH HEART” (Coral #62344) charted in March 1963 for 3 weeks and reached #95. Through the many years of performing and recording, The Demensions would have different group members joining them along their journey. In addition, they have released a number of CD’s with a lot of great music for all of us to enjoy! “IT’S ONLY MAKE BELIEVE” is a cut from a CD (2005) titled “Encore”. Group members singing are John Martinucci (lead), Lenny Dell (1st tenor), Ron Scauri (2nd tenor), Tom Clemente (baritone) and Daniela Meglino (Soprano). “IT’S ONLY MAKE BELIEVE” was written and originally recorded by Conway Twitty (MGM #12677) 1958. Conway Twitty also recorded a great duet of his classic with the late Loretta Lynn. Many other artists have covered “IT’S ONLY MAKE BELIEVE”: The Lafaros, Connie Francis, The Fabulous Acchords, Wanda Jackson, Johnny Burnette, Lesley Gore & Lou Christie (duet), just too many more to list!
