To earn their trust, she agrees to become their Reverend Mother by drinking the Water of Life, a deadly spice essence that only a trained Bene Gesserit can survive. In doing so, she not only gains their full acceptance but also absorbs the memories of all the Reverend Mothers who came before her. This ritual profoundly alters her, physically and mentally. Paul also embraces his role as a messianic figure for the Fremen. But as the years pass, Jessica begins to worry.
