Setting your lighting environment to be as visually convincing as possible has always been the prime goal for any filmmaker, but the tools we have had in the past have limited the ease of this task. In the past, we have used shortcuts like Poor Mans Process and manually creating shadows, but now with Image-based Lighting (IBL), creating realistic and active subject lighting is as easy as playing a video asset. IBL allows you to treat an array of Rainbow 2s or Double Rainbows as a low resolution, high output and fidelity monitor, playing back any asset in real time, perfect for pairing with LED Volumes to correctly match any environment.
