Un-noticed, there are very serious developments in Syria, right now. Government forces and extremist groups associated with them have invaded North East Syria - Rojava, the home of a remarkable project of women-led bottom-up communalist democracy. Not only is this democratic system being occupied and destroyed, government forces are allowing hundreds of ISIS prisoners to be released from prisons they are taking over in the region. The US is desperately shipping prisoners to Iraq because, clearly, they don't trust the government to detain them securely. Extremist groups among government forces meanwhile are committing multiple atrocities including summary executions, torture and desecration of corpses. Please note that I made an error when speaking - the SDF lost 14,000 troops killed, not 40,000. It suffered 40,000 casualties. I got mixed up.
