True, today we have far fewer of them and the world is generally better fed. But that does not mean that food insecurity is still very much with us and continues to plague the well-being of millions around the world. The 2008 financial crisis, the Covid-19 pandemic and the breakdown of supply chains have all contributed to the food crisis facing the world today. The war in Ukraine has been the last straw and today the threat of a new famine affecting the most vulnerable, sub-Saharan Africa, is more present than ever. So today we ask: what initiatives are being taken to prevent a catastrophic famine? Why were Russia and Ukraine selling so much wheat to Africa? What is Turkey's role in this story?
