EKRE hails its performance in Estonia election

(4 Mar 2019) STORYLINE: A far-right populist party appeared poised to make big gains in Estonia's general election, according to preliminary results in the early hours of Monday. A centre-right party that held the prime minister's office in Estonia for over a decade held a lead in the former Soviet republic's general election Sunday, with polls showing the Reform Party had 28.8 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, the anti-immigration, euroskeptic party  - Estonian Conservative People's Party, known as EKRE and that's led by father and son Mart and Martin Helme, had 17.8 percent. Speaking at an election night party in Tallin late Sunday, both Martin and Mart were pleased with the preliminary results with Martin adding the party's presence in the 101-seat parliament has now "almost tippled", calling its growth "impressive."
