HOW TO USE LECA Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate for planting Aroids

Leca stands for Lightweight expanded clay aggregate. Essentially, Leca (sometimes called clay pebbles) is a substrate that you can grow plants in but it isn’t organic in nature. Leca is a collection clay ball that have been super-heated to expand like popcorn. That process makes them super lightweight and porous. They have no nutrients in them like soil does and as such you must add the nutrients to the water. It is a well-established method for growing plants now and there are lots of videos on how to use Leca instead of other mediums like pon, soil, coco coir and compost. In this video I’ll tell you where and when I use Leca and how to convert a plant over from another medium. I’ll also cover where I failed with Leca and how to prevent that. Semi semi-hydroponics or semi-hydro is a way of growing plants using an inorganic medium instead of soil, peat moss, or bark. LECA or Lightweight expanded clay aggregate, is strong, light, absorbent, and very porous. Using semi-hydroponics for houseplants makes their care easier, keeps pest at bay, makes holidays a little easier it is even reusable! The difference between hydroponics and semi-hydroponics is that semi-hydro uses capillary or wicking action to uptake the water and therefore the nutrients held in a pot.
