Here is yet another bell I never thought I would own. After being replaced by a WCH E-Bell, this bell was left on the ground. As with the Rectangular E-Bell, Google Street View happened to cross the crossing shortly after the replacement. After seeing it on street view, I knew this rare bell had to be saved. This is the earliest known Electronic Bell to be produced in the United States. It was made by General Signals. The circuit board says that the bell tone was created on 8-29-91 (August 29th, 1991). It’s safe to say that production of these bells started a few months after that date. The board is marked BELL3, and utilizes the "clang" sound (the standard GS Type 1 tone is BELL4 through BELL6). It is unlikely we will ever figure out what BELL1 or BELL2 sounded like. Want to learn more about Early General Signals E-Bells? Click this link! http://www.rxrsignals.com/102/Electro... While a speaker replacement and some tinkering around with the circuit board got the bell working again, the process of opening the bell unfortunately involved damaging the cap of the bell. I don’t own the music but I do own all the pictures and clips.
