In this video I'll be sharing with you a fabulous printing technique: transferring magazine images with the gelli plate! I promise, from now on, you can make your own great prints! Materials you need: magazine images (I use the ones from Happinez, a Dutch magazine, if you know other ones that work, please let me know in the comments!) A4 print paper or an art journal to print in directly (a bit risky but be brave enough to try it, for me it turned out to be the best print, watch the video until the end to see this result) acrylic paint (for the black paint, I use a dollar store brand, it turns out the cheap and thin paint works out the best for this purpose) an ink brayer (I use Essdee) wet baby towels a times Step 1 Choose an image that you want to use for your print. Add black paint on the gelli plate. Then, lay the image (with the right sige) on the gelli plate. Wipe it gently (don't press too hard, as the paper will absorb all the paint and no paint will remain on the gelli plate). Now, take off your image and let the gelli plate dry for 5 minutes. Clean your brayer and if you want to, you can clean your image before the paint dries up. Sometimes you can use it a second time, or use this image for another project. Sometimes, I just love the image with black paint left over better than the printed ones. Step 2 After 5 minutes, you can add the second layer of paint. As you worked with a dark colour first, it's best to take a lighter (so contrasting) colour for this layer. Put your A4 paper (or your art journal) on the gelli plate now, press it gently and let it rest for another 5 minutes. Step 3 Now, check if you can lift the corners of your gelli plate. If so, take your paper off the plate and enjoy your result! If not, wait a little longer. Not every attempt may lead to a stunning result. It's dependent of the right brand and amount of paint, the paper of the magazine and of course, a bit of luck. If it fails 3 times, try it another day!
