My name is Dan. I had about seven months of being very impaired after an auto accident, after being rear-ended. I was having headaches and the main thing that had happened to me that I could tell was that my brain no longer has stamina and I couldn't take in sensory input very well. I stopped being able to be at parties. I didn't go on any of my daughter's field trips because the noise was too loud. I didn't eat restaurants for months. So that's how I was doing before. Well, the treatment is really intense. It's a really intense. You work really really hard and stretch yourself in ways that you had no idea you could even be stretched. I mean I'm saying you, whoever is listening but that was me. So I almost didn't notice, except here and there that after a couple of days, those symptoms that had been dogging me since the car accident basically gone, but last night I talked to my daughter, my six-year-old daughter on FaceTime and she started counting the lights, she could see they were on in the hotel room. She said there's three lights on, I looked around, I saw that there were six or seven lights on and she hasn't been in a room with me in the evening for a half a year where I haven't had every light but one turned off. So she noticed. Anyway, so yeah. That's how I was during the treatment and today I feel full of energy, really alert, you know I haven't gotten nearly as much sleep as I was getting in the months prior to this. Yeah I feel really energized and my mind is kind of almost on fire. It's how I would describe it. I barely have words to describe what a relief it was to have clear information. It was not in the realm of how I feel, but in the realm of what could actually be measured about what was happening in my brain. That by itself was worth the trip for me. Then to go with that, I feel very grateful to have come to a place where people have thought through with a more coherent picture of what happens in a concussion and what we need to do to recover. Those things by itself, even if I wasn't feeling as good as I am today would be just a huge lift in my life - just to understand better, have more information about what happened in my particular situation, what I think was wonderful about being here is that this place has a kind of a unique team approach to helping people where you are at the center of the work. You're doing the work. People are helping you all day long and giving you coaching and challenges and specific therapies and ideas and lots of people are doing it, and there's something really nice about having a lot of people come in lots of different angles to help you do this work.
