First Drive Over the T. Nagar Steel Flyover For the people of T. Nagar, Chennai, traffic has always been more than just an inconvenience—it was a daily curse. But everything changed with the inauguration of the Anbazhagan Flyover, Chennai’s first-ever steel bridge. After hearing about it for two years, I finally experienced it first-hand—and what was once a 20–25 minute journey transformed into just 4 minutes. In this video, I take you along for the ride, from the memories of the old traffic nightmare to the freedom of this brand-new elevated experience. Life Before the Flyover: The Old T. Nagar Shuffle Anyone who grew up in or around T. Nagar knows the struggle. A short trip from T. Nagar Bus Stand to Habibullah Road could take 15–20 minutes on a normal day. During peak hours or festival seasons, the same stretch could stretch to 30 minutes or more. The culprits? The infamous junctions that acted as traffic dams: South Usman Road & Burkit Road Junction Madley Road & Burkit Road Junction South Usman Road & South Boag Road Junction New Boag Road Junction The numbers tell the story: Length: Nearly 2 km (connected seamlessly with the existing flyover). Width: 8.4 meters, comfortably handling two-way traffic. Support: 53 steel pillars lifting thousands of commuters above the chaos below. For me, this wasn’t just a climb onto a new road—it was a climb into a new era of urban transport for Chennai. What used to be a frustrating 20–25 minute ordeal was suddenly over in just 4 minutes. No honking, no endless braking, no staring at traffic lights. Instead, it was a smooth, uninterrupted glide over the city. From above, I watched as the old bottlenecks—South Usman Road junction, Madley Road junction—slipped quietly beneath me. I wasn’t fighting traffic anymore. I was flying above it. It felt surreal. For a moment, I even questioned: “Am I really in T. Nagar?” The true success of any flyover isn’t just measured in minutes saved—it’s in the impact on the ground. As I descended near the T. Nagar Bus Stand, I was met with a sight I haven’t witnessed in decades: clear roads, free of suffocating congestion. For once, T. Nagar wasn’t choking on its own traffic. It was breathing freely. The Verdict: A Boon (வரப்பிரசாதம்) for T. Nagar The Anbazhagan Flyover is more than just steel and asphalt. It’s a solution to a generational problem. It gives us back the one thing that traffic always stole from us: time. For the 40,000–50,000 people who navigate these streets every day, this project is not just about vehicles moving faster—it’s about families spending more time together, workers reaching offices without stress, and a community finally experiencing relief. For me personally, as someone who grew up in T. Nagar, it feels like we’ve gotten our neighborhood back. And that is priceless. Symbolic progress: Represents a new chapter in Chennai’s infrastructure. #Chennai #TNagar #Flyover #AnbazhaganFlyover #ChennaiTraffic #ChennaiDevelopment #SteelBridge #UrbanChennai #TamilNadu For more updates from Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and latest news updates from Chennai, latest chennai updates stay tuned Disclaimer In this channel, I have taken best efforts to follow Copyright Disclaimer under Section 107 of the copyright act 1976 and allowance of fair use policy for purpose of information, comment, scholarship, research, criticism.
