E26: The Singlet Eaglet - Feedings & Snuggles - SWFL Eagles Nest M15 & F23 (12/21-12/22)

The second egg at the SWFL nest is officially past the possibility of viable hatch. While this certainly is an unfortunate reality, there are plenty of upsides to focus on. For starters, we have not lost a living, breathing eaglet. It is most likely that the egg never even fully developed into an eaglet, so while we were anxious for a little one to come bursting out of that oval wonder, there really isn't a traditional "death" to mourn. And most importantly - we are seeing the beginnings of a successful season unfold, with E26 in place to receive all the spoils and complete attentive devotion from M15 & F23. There will be no bonking or aggression to scare us aunties & uncles. E26 is doing wonderfully, and s/he stands to have a fantastic season to fledging. There is always the argument on the flipside - that the lack of "competition" from a sibling puts an only eaglet at a disadvantage because they may lack a certain experience with having to fight or face competitive struggle for basic needs. This is not an entirely unsound argument, but there is also no statistical study that I have discovered showing that "only chicks" have a documented disadvantage of any sort. I'd be curious to read your opinions on this topic!
