This is what I believe: talent is stewardship. Whatever talent God has gifted you - in art, in sports, in academics, in business - you don't own it. You're a steward of it. When I started getting paid for my performances, I kind of had my own personal crisis. Money started coming in, all the fame started coming in, and I go, "What do I do with this?" I felt God asking me, "What's in your hand?" "It's a cello." And so He replied, "Then that cello represents your identity, who you are. You're a cellist. It represents your income. You're making a lot of money off that cello. And it represents your influence. So what are you going to do with your identity, your income, your influence?" I've performed with famous celebrities, who are the wealthiest people in the world, but they're not happy at all. Happiness isn't about looking good, feeling good, or having the material things; it's about being good, doing good, and serving with your talent. God's purpose for our talents is not to build up our ego or net worth. It's not about us. It's about giving and making the world a better place. Eventually, we’re all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, and we will all have to explain to God the things we have done.
