This seminar in the One McCormick Series, which seeks to build community and connectivity at Northwestern Engineering, focuses on the Mental Health Allies (MHA) and Responding to Students in Distress (RSD) programs. These programs educate McCormick School of Engineering faculty and staff on how to provide assistance to students who need support for mental health challenges, and refer those in crisis. Though faculty and staff are not in a position to counsel students, they are taught to serve as concerned listeners who support and guide quickly and directly to appropriate services. Speakers are Jill Wilson, Charles Deering McCormick Distinguished Professor of Instruction and assistant chair of the industrial engineering and management sciences department; and Marita Labedz Poll, IEMS senior academic adviser.
