On April 1st, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Fort Worth police dispatch received a call reporting a major accident. The caller stated that a black Toyota Camry had veered off the roadway into the median before colliding with a guardrail and coming to a stop. When officers arrived at the scene, they quickly realized this was no ordinary car accident. The driver, a 70-year-old female, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators immediately suspected she had been shot by a passing motorist in what appeared to be a road rage incident. The victim, later identified as 70-year-old Julia Ann Gregor, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Detectives began canvassing the area, speaking with motorists who had witnessed the accident. Several witnesses reported seeing a white SUV speeding away from the scene moments after the crash. Using traffic cameras and the reported time of the incident, investigators were able to identify the make and model of the suspect’s vehicle. However, the footage was too blurry to discern a license plate number, leaving detectives without a clear lead. That changed a few days later when police received an anonymous tip that pointed them to 34-year-old Jeffrey Watson. With this new information, detectives tracked Watson down and brought him to the station for questioning. What followed was an interrogation that could determine whether he was a witness, or the person responsible for Julia Ann Gregor’s shooting.
