The healthcare system is facing increasing pressure, driven by the aging population and the high cost of technological innovations. The process of evaluating new therapies is long, involving health registration, price regulation, and then the decision to incorporate them into the public and private systems, which occurs at different levels. Unifying this last stage would be a way to speed up the decision, which could reduce the judicialization of medications. This is the perspective defended by Denizar Vianna, a full professor at the School of Medicine of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and former secretary of science, technology, and strategic inputs at the Ministry of Health between 2019 and 2020, in the most recent episode of Futuro Talks. During the conversation, Denizar said that choosing a more robust technology evaluation system is in line with establishing priorities for healthcare, something that is not always easy, but that needs to be on the radar. In the face of excessive judicialization, he defended risk sharing as a solution to expand access to new technologies, but pointed out the legal obstacles and suggested greater involvement of the Legislature.
