Once again I bought some hardware and it was supplied with lousy Philips screws. Eventually you reach the breaking point… // WnW #48 ⇊ Click "Show More" for the details! ⇊ Seriously, can we all just agree to get rid of all Slotted and Philips screws? Forever and ever? Please? I actually had to search for about five minutes through my pot of mismatched screws in order to find a slotted screw, as I throw them away whenever I encounter them. Yes. I throw them away. All the time. Life is too short to use such a lousy designed item. The Philips design isn’t much better. Robertson screws have been manufactured since 1908, according to Wikipedia. And yes, it’s true that Henry Ford tried to get an exclusive U.S. license for them, and was turned down. So he switched to Philips screws. A lot of people refer to these as “Square Drive” screws. The proper name is Robertson. But when doing any sort of online searches you better be prepared to try both search terms. I just checked Amazon and you do NOT get the same results when you search for “Square Drive screws” and “Robertson Screws”. It’s kind of a misnomer, though, as a proper Robertson Screw (and screwdriver) is NOT a perfect square cube. The sides are in fact tapered just a little bit, so the screw really stays tight on the bit, as you see in the video. And yes, of course, Robertson screws can and do fall off the screwdriver at times, but with no where NEAR the frequency that you get with the other types. Not even close. Just say NO to lousy screws.
