8.25.2020 | 12:55 AM PDT | Los Angeles, CA | City Hall DTLA Protesters chanted, “No justice, no peace” while some threw water bottles at members of law enforcement who wore protective gear and stood shoulder-to-shoulder in front of the crowd. Around 11:30 P.M. law enforcement declared the crowd to be an unlawful assembly and began engaging and exchanging with front line protesters. Police fired tear gas and less-lethal ammo at the crowd, but not all the protesters left. Many took a lap over 101 Highway and then retreated back to the tent village constructed in the park, across from Los Angeles City Hall. The state Department of Justice is investigating after officers from a Wisconsin police department responding to a domestic incident on Sunday evening were involved in a shooting, according to a news release. The man who was shot, Jacob Blake, was airlifted to a Milwaukee hospital and was in serious condition as of early Monday, police said. Tyrone Muhammad, a member of the group Ex-Cons for Community and Social Change, said Blake's father told him Blake was out of surgery and expected to survive.
