Jacob Lake Arizona is a small town on the way to the North Rim of Grand Canyon. If you are driving to North Rim, you are going through Jacob Lake. • The area was developed by Mormon settlers, and the Jacob Lake Inn was started in 1923 to mostly serve the tourists who were already traveling to North Rim. • The surprisingly large store is well known for its sweets, including cookies and baked goods. There is a dining counter, small general store, gifts and curios and the obligatory restrooms, in a generally well-stocked store. • There is also a gas station with expensive gas. You might find that prices are cheaper at the gas station located in the National Park on the road to the campground. • This is the largest commercial stop on the way to North Rim. There is also a small store and gas station just before the entry gate, but it is not as well supplied. • Jacob Lake Inn rents rooms as well, the prices vary seasonally, but generally run from $135 to under $200 in season. These rooms were open for housekeeping, so we took a peak in to give you an idea of the accommodation. I have never stayed here, so I have no comments about the accommodations. • There is also a campground in the area, run by the forest service, where developed campsites rent for $6 and up a night. You can book in advance at recreation.gov, or ask for a walk-up site. • A final feature, just South of Jacob Lake is the Jacob Lake Fire Lookout tower, assembled in 1934 by the CCC. The great thing about it is that you can climb to the top and get a little exercise before making the final one hour or so drive to Bright Angel Point.
