The Hungry Ghost - A Hyper-Realistic Stone Carving in Carrara Marble In this project, I take on the challenge of sculpting "The Hungry Ghost," a figure inspired by Buddhist mythology, symbolizing the torment of an empty soul consumed by addiction or loss. This sculpture seeks to capture the raw expression of despair, depicting a man overwhelmed by his inner struggles. The piece is carved from Carrara marble, a material traditionally associated with the rich and elite. This choice creates a powerful juxtaposition between the anguish of the subject and the luxury of the stone. The contrast highlights the stark difference between human suffering and the unattainable ideals that marble often represents. The process begins with cutting down the marble block, followed by the precise use of a traditional pointing machine to map out a matrix of positions. These guide me in sculpting every detail, from the rough form to the most delicate features, capturing the emotional intensity of the figure.
