The three Trappist monks who founded the Centering Prayer movement offer their perspectives on the beginning of Centering Prayer, on the tenth anniversary of Contemplative Outreach in 1994. For more information on Contemplative Outreach, begun by Fr. Thomas Keating, and the Centering Prayer practice, go to http://www.contemplativeoutreach.org. These three priests, Fathers Keating, William Meninger and Basil Pennington, began the Centering Prayer movement in the 1970’s to renew the Christian tradition of contemplation. This is the first video in the series, “The Christian Contemplative Heritage - Our Apophatic Tradition,” which locates Centering Prayer in the mainstream of the Christian Contemplative Tradition which retrieved, reclaimed and reappropriated the classical inspirations of our apophatic tradition. For a listing and links to all videos in this series, go to its playlist at • The Christian Contemplative Heritage . Recorded at the Contemplative Outreach Institute at the Beech Grove Benedictine Center in January 1994, the entire series has not been available since the days of VHS videocassettes, until now.
