BLS Autoverlad Zug / Car Train at Kandersteg - October 2024

I spent a couple of hours at Kandersteg in Switzerland, located along the Lötschberg axis connecting the nation's capital of Bern to Italy. Kandersteg is situated along the old route over the top, the Lötschberg Base Tunnel shortened journey times however of course, it skips these small alpine villages out. Due to the mountainous terrain, road vehicles must be transported via rail between Kandersteg and Goppenstein. These trains operate regularly and up until recently were operated by BLS Re 425 locomotives. However, they are on their final legs as BLS plans to replace these completely with Re 465 locomotives, at the moment both 425 & 465 locomotives can be seen pushing and pulling these trains. I'll be honest, I was surprised to see Re 425s still in use on these trains as BLS have already started scrapping these locomotives and are rarely seen on freight trains now.
