Deathconsciousness is the debut studio album by American rock duo Have a Nice Life, released on January 24, 2008 on Enemies List Home Recordings. Recorded independently by the band members on a budget of less than $1,000, Deathconsciousness was released as a double album; the first disc is entitled "The Plow That Broke the Plains" and the second is entitled "The Future". The original cover art features a darkened version of the painting The Death of Marat, painted by Jacques-Louis David in 1793. The album bridges the worlds of Post-Punk, Shoegaze, Drone, Post-Rock, Post-Industrial, Gothic Rock, and Dark Ambience. ----- 0:00:00 - (showcasing the cover) 0:00:43 - (Side A start) ----- 0:00:51 - A Quick One Before the Eternal Worm Devours Connecticut 0:08:45 - Bloodhail 0:14:25 - The Big Gloom ----- 0:22:20 - (intermission) 0:22:42 - (Side B start) ----- 0:22:53 - Hunter 0:32:43 - Telefony 0:37:10 - Who Would Leave Their Son Out in the Sun? 0:42:37 - There Is No Food ----- 0:46:50 - (intermission) 0:47:19 - (side C start) ----- 0:47:28 - Waiting for Black Metal Records to Come In the Mail 0:53:45 - Holy Fucking Shit: 40,000 1:00:12 - The Future ----- 1:04:12 - (intermission) 1:04:32 - (side D start) ----- 1:04:42 - Deep, Deep 1:10:08 - I Don't Love 1:16:24 - Earthmover ----- 1:27:53 - (intermission) 1:28:01 - (return of camera audio. goodbye!) ----- This rip was captured using as much analog equipment as I could. The table was being sent to the line input of a Kenwood KX-830 cassette deck (essentially a "pre"amp in this situation), which I then sent directly out through the deck's line out to the microphone input of a computer. The video is being recorded from an older Mini DV cam I had. I would liked to have captured the video in better quality, as the video recording was captured in LP or long-play mode, but this album is well over the 60 minute limit for a standard, higher quality SP mode of a Mini DV tape. This album's themes and its composition are compelling to those who are lost, to those who have been waking up at piss-poor hours in the morning for a dead-end job, to those who want to spite the world by wallowing in the overwhelming anxiety one gets from being alone. To those in the audience who feel they have no home or no presence, I hope that this can be a warm respite between the long nights and the high-gain static of an underappreciated life. Know that, despite everything, the sun rises from the cold night into dawn. Know that, to spite everything, to live is to hope and to hope is to live, to fight and fight even for as little as you can is to be human. Know that the revolution starts in your heart.
