Hawaii AARL Field Day 2021 Oahu highlights EARCHI and KARC

Two clubs come together to help host a great event! Mahalo to all those who made the event happen! Koolau Amateur Radio Club - KARC - http://www.karc.net/ Emergency Amateur Radio Club Hawaii EARCHI http://earchi.org/ Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday and running through 2059 UTC Sunday. Another ARRL Field Day in the books. Thanks to all who came out to partake of radio, food and fellowship. The turnout was better than expected. Sadly the propagation wasn't so great. We were setup and able to operate by about 0830. We pulled the plug at 1500 as propagation was not favorable. The EARC logged 17 contacts, half of which were not DX. All great fun. Special thanks to all those who lent a hand for setup and take down. That is always the most challenging and draining. It was quite warm and humid from beginning to end. This is a free, national event sponsored by the ARRL (American Radio Relay League, the National Organization of Radio Amateur in the U.S.). Several hundred clubs nationwide participate in this event, which serves as a practical application of emergency operations, a fun contest, and as a public service event for Amateur Radio. Sometimes served agencies, such as National Weather Service (SkyWarn), the American Red Cross, and others join in with displays, etc. For Amateur Radio operators, it is a fun get-together as well as an opportunity to polish communications skills vital in the event of an emergency. An amateur radio operator is someone who uses equipment at an amateur radio station to engage in two-way personal communications with other amateur operators on radio frequencies assigned to the amateur radio service. Amateur radio operators have been granted an amateur radio license by a governmental regulatory authority after passing an examination on applicable regulations, electronics, radio theory, and radio operation. As a component of their license, amateur radio operators are assigned a call sign that they use to identify themselves during communication. Amateur radio operators are also known as radio amateurs or hams. The term "ham" is a nickname for amateur radio operators.
