Aspatria Dreamscheme

The Dreamscheme in Aspatria is a youth project which started in July 2003 in a rundown youth centre, with one part time worker and 8 young people. Since then it has grown into a project with an average attendance of over 130 young people a year, two full time workers, and a wealth of young volunteers. We focus on empowering young people aged 11-19 to be a positive force within their community whilst raising their aspirations and supporting them to reach their potential in an environment that is both anti oppressive and offers equal opportunities for young people to make lasting relationships. The idea behind the Dreamscheme is one of working for rewards. Young people who live in the town and nearby villages can agree on tasks/jobs to complete, once they have completed their tasks/jobs they are given access to various trips and activities. The work they undertake can be anything that makes their community a better place to live. This ethos strives to develop personal growth, build confidence and to enable young people to achieve at their own pace. We as a youth work provider believe that young people should be involved in all levels of our organisation, 'ran by young people for young people' with this belief we ensure that young people have an active role within every level of our organisation, from the planning and delivery of new self-development projects to the management of the project as a whole, this enables us to continually deliver the kind of youth work that young people want to remain involved in. www.aspatriadreamscheme.com [email protected]
