HOUSTON (KIAH)--Thanks to a new grant awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission, Houston Community College received $280,000 for its apprenticeship training program. The program will help train future electricians, plumbers and more. The grant will help 550 students including electrical apprentice, Ralph Leon. He says he's been in the program for two years. “Houston is the hub for plants, the type of training that we output, which include motor controls and different electrical components are used in most of the plants. You'll be prepared to work in just about any of the plants. “There's vast opportunities once once you have electrical training, anything that you could think of is run by electricity. There are some positions that's being taken over by robots and automation. But still, you got to have electricians to run those."
