By now it’s common knowledge that America’s Renegade is a re-skinned version of Technos of Japan’s Nekketsu Koha Kunio-kun. So when Kunio-kun received a sequel on the Game Boy called: Nekketsu Koha Kunio-kun: Bangai Ranto Hen, it only made sense that it would also be the sequel to Renegade, simply titled: The Renegades. But Acclaim, the company who owned Double Dragon’s rights in the States, had different ideas, instead, retooling The Renegades to resemble a new Double Dragon game, with the idea that they would rake in more money by selling the portable brawler under a more recognizable franchise.
