Implementing IDDSI in Acute Care Settings – Sharing the Halton Healthcare Experience

Many acute healthcare facilities have not been able to implement IDDSI to the full capacity due to facility limitations and lack of skilled staff. Halton Healthcare will share their experiences implementing IDDSI at their 3 hospital sites. The session includes both challenges and successes with testing RTS products, developing recipes, working with manufacturer partners, testing and taste panels, collaboration with Allied Health professionals and staff training. The aim is to inspire those in acute healthcare facilities that IDDSI implementation is possible beyond the fluids. PRESENTER: Marianna Katusin Marianne Katusin is the Director of Support Services at Halton Healthcare. With over 30 years of healthcare experience, she brings drive, innovative thinking, and commitment to providing exemplary patient meal experiences. Marianne was the project lead for Halton Healthcare’s award winning “Good for you…Locally Grown” project, recognized by the Greenbelt Fund for putting more Ontario grown and produced foods on hospital menus. She is a “foodie” at heart who is committed to sharing her knowledge and experience with her peers in the industry. Marianne holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Administration & Information Management, a Diploma in Food & Nutrition Management, multiple Lean Healthcare Belts and a certificate in Project Management for Health & Social Services. Marianne is an active member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management and also works as a part time Instructor with CHA Learning’s Food Service and Nutrition Management (FSNM) program, offered in partnership with Algonquin College, Applied Arts and Technology.
