Took advantage of a gorgeous February day to try out the Yelm - Tenino Trail. This paved multi-use trail, which is closed to motorized vehicles, runs along Hwy 507, but as far as highways goes this is a pretty quiet one and the forested buffer between really helps make the trail feel more secluded. The trail goes through the town of Rainier, crosses the Deschutes River, and goes past Lake McIntosh. Roundtrip it was 28.5 miles (45.8 km), and my AppleWatch had it at a total of 485 ft (147.8 m) of elevation gain. My Strava showed 848 ft (258.47 m) of elevation gain. Not sure why there was such a discrepancy. Any ideas out there which might be more accurate and why? Once in Tenino, check out the park, the rail museum, and grab a bite to eat downtown. This trail would also be good for birding - I didn't capture a lot of them on camera, but I saw: red-tailed hawk, Steller's jay, flickers, trumpeter swans, buffleheads, common mergansers, and more. This trail is on the traditional territory of the Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla, Cowlitz, Chehalis, and Nisqually people. Music: Arpeggisynth by Geographer Evergreen by Geographer
