Shinkula Pass (also called Shinku La or Shingo La) is a high-altitude mountain pass situated at an elevation of around 5,091 meters (16,703 ft) in the Indian Himalayas. It lies on the border of Ladakh’s Zanskar region and Lahaul Valley in Himachal Pradesh. This pass is part of the Great Himalayan Range and has historically served as a trade route between Zanskar and Lahaul. Shinkula is one of the newest Himalayan passes to be connected by a motorable road under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), providing a direct route between Darcha (Himachal Pradesh) and Padum (Zanskar, Ladakh). The road is challenging, with rugged terrain, river crossings, and dramatic landscapes, making it a hotspot for adventure bikers, trekkers, and road trip enthusiasts. The pass is open for a short period (typically June to October) due to heavy snowfall in winter. The route offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, alpine meadows, and pristine valleys, making it a hidden gem for offbeat travelers.
