George Orwell's 'Notes on Nationalism' Actually Studies Tribalism American historian Brad Harris, in an episode of his podcast ‘Context With Brad Harris’, makes an argument that in his 1945 essay 'Notes on Nationalism', George Orwell was referring to 'tribalism' when describing the darker aspects of nationalism, and Brad reinterprets the essay in focusing upon tribalism, which is a well-studied phenomenon in post 2010s.
