I've always liked the idea of playing and singing and over the years I have managed to collect a number of "Little Black Songbooks". The problem is my singing has always fell a little flat and I tend to start songs but not finish them. So I thought it would be fun to record a few tunes from the Songbooks with the aim of challenging myself to develop my voice, hopefully practice more and become a better musician. If you have ever used a Little Black Songbook you'll know they are quite often stuffed full of songs only a fraction of which you may know. The spines are stiff and the books are difficult to keep open at the pages you want. There is no guide to time, or feel, or indication of melody. Having sad all that, they are tough, a great size, they provide song structure, lyrics, and chords and contain some real gems to enjoy. Sultans of Swing has some great trademark Knopfler licks and tricks to attempt.
