She is a Regional Recovery Project Manager in the Service’s Mountain-Prairie Region where she leads teams through species status assessments, the development of recovery planning documents, and 5-year status reviews for listed species. She has worked with whitebark pine since 2018 as part of the core team that developed the species status assessment to inform the species listing determination. She is currently working with the whitebark pine recovery team on the development of a recovery plan for whitebark pine. Karen works out of the Montana Ecological Services Field Office in Helena, Montana. Abstract/Summary: Whitebark pine and the Endangered Species Act (ESA) have a long history. This webinar reviews the species’ history with the ESA, the development of the species status assessment, and the decision to list whitebark pine as a threatened species under the ESA. After listing the species, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service formed a recovery team comprised of species and subject matter experts to assist with the development of a recovery plan and recovery implementation strategy for whitebark pine. This webinar will provide an overview of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recovery planning process and next steps in recovery planning for whitebark pine.
