PointZero (aka ⱣØỊИ₮ZЄЯ0) is a FluCoMa-powered implementation of NMF-based Concatenative Sound Synthesis (Driedger 2015), inspired by Rob Clouth's "Reconstructor" software used on the album Zero Point (Mesh 2020). PointZero was created by Ben Cantil aka Encanti with help from Pierre Alexandre Tremblay & Owen Green, originally made as part of FluCoMa hack day at University of Edinburgh, 2021. Concatenative Sound Synthesis (CSS), otherwise known as Audio Mosaicing, is a term that describes a broad set of data-driven approaches for interacting with an audio segment database, or Corpus, primarily by re-creating a Target sound from corpus segments through a descriptor-lead analytical comparison and superimposition algorithm. The sound engine behind CSS resembles granular synthesis, except that aspects such as the grain size and position in the corpus are determined by a data-driven query. The method used for PointZero uses an NMF-based machine learning algorithm in place of descriptors - an algorithm originally published by Jonathan Driedger, Thomas Prätzlich, and Meinard Müller: "Let It Bee — Towards NMF-Inspired Audio Mosaicing" (2015). This algorithm was implemented by FluCoMa in an object called fluid.buffcross~, which this patch is built around, with an emphasis on producing stereo output results quickly and easily.
