I believe this is objectively speaking the best Deafheaven song. my favorite? no, but the dream pop/shoegaze clean breaks, george's screams, the beautifully cathartic chord progressions, and Dan's monstrous performance keeping it all together makes Winona truly the song that captures all the sounds Deafheaven has created throughout the years. The short film likewise is just as beautiful and I'm so stoked to see this song come to life. Definetely the crown jewel of the record and as mentioned before the band's discography as a whole. Beyond stoked to see them TOMORROW (as of 04/18/25) for the first date of their headlining tour up in LA. My prediction is that they're going to walk on to Incidental I playing out of the PA and go into Doberman and Magnolia just like the record. I'm almost certain they'll end the night with this song and The Marvelous Orange Tree. Finally with you-know-what as the encore. If I'm being honest it'd be super dope if they play Dream House in the normal set and have the encore be Incidental III, Winona, and The Marvelous Orange Tree. I bet on the Sunbather anniversary tour they were relieved to not play Dream House as the obligatory encore for once lol. Good to switch things up a bit. Edit: CALLED THIS SHIT EXACTLY!
