Strawberry Switchblade started out in 1981 as a 4-piece indie band consisting of Rose McDowall (vocals, guitar), Jill Bryson (guitar, vocals), Janice Goodlett (bass), and Carole McGowan (drums). By the end of 1982 they'd reduced to a duo of Rose and Jill, but not before they'd done some gigs and recorded this three-song demo as Glasgow's Hellfire Club studio. In 2017, the demo was released by Night School Records. 2250 copies have been pressed on vinyl of varying colours, each with an enthralling 16-page booklet of photos by Peter McArthur and notes by Stephen Pastel. It provides a fascinating insight into the origins of the band that can't help but make the listener see other facets to the better known tracks, and make you wonder how it would have been if they'd continued as a full band.
