Hi, I'm Scott with etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at installing our CURT hitch for our 2023 Subaru Forester. Our Curt hitch for our Subaru Forester is gonna be the hidden tube type design. So most of your hitch isn't gonna be seen, it's gonna be up under your fascia here, and only your main two inch portion of your hitch here is gonna be showing. Our hitch does have a five-eighths pin opening here, and what that's gonna be for is when you put your accessories in, it's gonna hold them in place. It will not come with a pin, but you can get one through etrailer or you can get our optional locking pin that will go through. And that's going to up the security of any accessories you have on the back of your hitch. As far as your safety loops go, you're gonna have access to your standard S style hook here or you can use your clevis style hook here. It's really nice. You can have either one of those for your chains on your trailer or whatever you have. As far as measurements go, you're gonna have your two inch opening here and that's gonna fit most of your receiver accessories that are on the market. As far as your measurements go here, you're gonna be looking at right around 14 inches from the top of the inside of your tube here to the ground. That's gonna be your measurement to figure out if you're gonna need any rise in the shank of say a bike rack or a cargo carrier or anything like that. That's a good measurement to have. As far as your measurements out from your bumper, from your pin hole out, you're looking at about an inch-and-a-half. So what that's gonna do is say you have a bike rack that folds up, you're gonna be able to use that measurement to see when you fold your bike rack up if you're gonna be able to make contact with the back of your vehicle or not. As far as your weight goes for this one it's gonna have a 350 pound tongue weight rating and that is the weight pushing down on the tongue itself. That's gonna be for the weight of your accessories, like your bike racks with your bikes on it included. Or maybe you have a cargo carrier in the back where you put all your stuff. 350 pounds is gonna be your downward rating for that. As far as towing capacity, you're gonna have a 3,500 pound gross trailer rating for this one. And what that is is that's gonna be your trailer, the weight of your trailer and everything that you have on that. With that rating, you're just gonna want to check in your owner's manual and make sure that your vehicle is in line with those specifications. You always want to go with the lowest number in there. That way you're all safe. As far as installation goes, this one really isn't too bad to do. Taking the fascia off isn't really tough. You are gonna have to do a little bit of trimming and everything's pretty easy to get at for the most part. But if it's something you don't have time to do or don't really want to mess with, you can always look at our dealer locator and maybe find somebody local to get it installed for you. But if it's something that you want to get done yourself, stick around, watch our video, and we'll show you how to get it done. To start our installation on our Subaru Forester, we're gonna want to get our hatch opened up and on each side here we're gonna remove our taillight housings. So we're gonna have a screw here and a screw here. And this is gonna be just removing the cover here. So we're gonna remove these on both sides. And those are gonna be like a plastic rivet. So when you back those off, don't put a lot of pressure pushing inward on the screw head itself. Just kind of let the screwdriver bite and back it off a little bit. (drill whirring) And once it starts to come out you can just grab it with your fingers and wiggle and pull back on. It could be a little road grime or something up in there, so you just give it a little wiggle and it'll come right out for you. Then we'll remove our panel. You may need to get a little plastic tool and just kind of pop behind it. They fit in there pretty tight, so we'll just have to wiggle it out of there. With the panel outta the way, now we need to remove our taillight here. So what we're gonna do is just get in here with a Phillips screwdriver and back those up. (drill whirring) And we'll set those off to the side where they won't get lost. Now we'll just kind of pu
