Ron Bentley is adjusting to living with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) after suffering three heart attacks. The Texas man's last heart attack occurred Dec. 24, 2015 and worried him so much that he texted his children and told them he loved them, in case he didn't get another chance to. After discussing with his physicians in Texas, Bentley chose to come to Nebraska Medicine to have the LVAD procedure in January 2016. He is originally from the Omaha area and a majority of his family is still here. Aside from not being able to go swimming or on a boat to fish, Bentley says he's been adjusting well to the LVAD and is grateful to have it. However, he is hopeful to be placed on the heart transplant list, so he can get a new heart and get back on the open water.
