Rhoda Scott, who has been called “the barefoot queen of the Hammond organ”, first played with Xaver Varnus 30 years ago on a major European television show. Xaver was a fan of the legendary jazz musician as a child. They have given many concerts together over the past thirty years, but perhaps the most memorable was the 2011 tour, when 30,000 tickets were sold for a joint concert between the two musicians in a single weekend. Now they felt it was time to say a musical farewell to each other. Once again, the Budapest Great Synagogue, the venue of the legendary first Rhoda-Xaver concert, was chosen. The 4,500 tickets for the concert were bought by fans months in advance, in just a few hours. It was Rhoda and Xaver's wish to build the programme of the great improvisational concert around Bach's immortal spirit.
