This is my 100th cover on this channel! Contrary to popular belief, George did not write this song about his Friar Park mansion. In 1975, he bumped into a man named George Greif at a music festival. Harrison was a big Lord Buckley fan, and told Greif that he resembled Buckley. To his surprise, Greif was Buckley's manager and invited George to Buckley's Los Angeles mansion, which was nicknamed Crackerbox Palace He wrote Crackerbox Palace after visiting the mansion, and later nicknamed his own mansion Friar Park after it. The lyrics reference meeting a 'Mister Greif'. The music video for the song is filmed entirely at Friar Park George released the song on his 1976 album Thirty Three & 1/ॐ. It features George on acoustic guitar and electric slide guitars There is only one acoustic guitar on the track, which was unusual for Harrison who liked to layer multiple acoustics. It is definitely a 12-string, most likely his Zemaitis acoustic, capo'd at the 6th fret As with many of George's songs, he played the slide guitar in open E tuning- E B E Gsharp B E There are two electric slide guitars throughout the whole song, split left and right. George used a Fender Strat, possibly his famous 'Rocky' guitar from the Beatle days. He used position 2, which is the middle and bridge pickups OUT of phase Besides the quacky tone of this pickup position, there is also another effect on the slide guitars. George used ADT (automatic double tracking) tape flanging, a technique that was invented by Beatles engineer Ken Townsend. On this song, it's less flangey and more of a very short delay I used my Fender Stratocaster into a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb, with an Analogman King of Tone boost and Analogman Comprossor pedal.
