In a dimly lit studio tucked behind Justine’s Brasserie in Austin, Texas, photographer Adrian Whipp creates portraits that feel more like time travel than photography. Using a process invented in the 1800s, Adrian hand-crafts each image on a sheet of metal coated in silver, a tintype, capturing light, chemistry, and human connection in a single fragile moment. Through his studio, Lumiere Tintype, Adrian has revived a nearly lost art form. What began as a fascination with analog photography has evolved into a full-scale traveling darkroom- a mobile portrait studio that now lives behind Justine's Brasserie, inviting people to step inside and see themselves the way generations once did: honest, imperfect, and eternal. This Call Me Mabie short documentary explores Adrian’s philosophy, process, and the quiet magic that unfolds when you choose slowness in a world that never stops moving.
