The mating behavior of snails is quite bizarre! Most of the snail species are hermaphrodites, having both male and female sex organs in each animal. They can produce self-fertilized eggs. However, they do mating also. When the courtship starts between two snails, there is a competition to dominate as male, and to douse the male instinct of the partner. There is a 'weapon' called 'Love Dart', which is ejected out from behind the head, and the snails strike it on the body of the partner to eject a hormone through it to the partner's body. The hormone kills the male instinct. The fight to disable the maleness of the other continues for some time. Ultimately one snail wins whose Love Dart was more active than the other's. The other one starts behaving like female, and becomes mother.
