On March 8, students from Hallman Elementary School had the chance to share their voices regarding the greatest injustices they see in their community. Students prepared for weeks conducting in-depth research and preparing opinion papers to present to community leaders. Students led with their passions to speak about issues ranging from the maltreatment of pets to third world countries not having clean drinking water. During the event, students were joined by over 20 community members and organizations where they had the opportunity to present their opinions and ideas for solutions. "We want students to understand that they can't wait for others to make improvements around them and that they can do the right thing, or the thing that needs to be done without waiting for someone else to do it," says Hallman Principal, Jessica Brenden. This bigger idea for this project is for students to feel empowered to have influence on their community and are given an opportunity to do that.
